The International Doctoral Seminars
are organized by the Doctoral School of the Wrocław University of Economics and Business (WUEB). These seminars provide an excellent platform for discussion during meetings held online.
Objectives:
- presentation of doctoral students’ research;
- creating an international forum of discussion between doctoral students and established academics;
- exchange of research experience.
Meetings are held under the patronage of Prof. dr hab. Bogusława Drelich-Skulska – Vice-Rector for Accreditation and International Cooperation, and dr hab. inż Dominika Bąk-Grabowska – Dean of Doctoral School of WUEB.

Keynote speaker:
prof. Thomas Choi – Arizona State University
Prof. Thomas Y. Choi, AT&T Professor and Regents’ Professor, Department of Supply Chain Management, Arizona State University. As a researcher of supply chain management, he studies the upstream side of supply chains, in which a buying company interfaces with many suppliers organized into various forms of networks. He has published articles in the Academy of Management Executive, Decision Sciences Journal, Decision Support Systems, Harvard Business Review, Journal of Management, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Supply Chain Management, Production and Operations Management, Science, and others. He currently serves as co-director of the Complex Adaptive Supply Networks Research Accelerator (CASN-RA), an international research group of scholars interested in supply networks. He has also worked with numerous public and private organizations including LG Electronics, Samsung, Toyota, Volvo, the U.S. Department of Energy, and a federal government think tank. He has co-authored three practitioner books on supply management including one recently published on Supply Chain Financing. Most recently, he served as the lead volume editor of the Oxford Handbook of Supply Chain Management.

Prof. Noemi Sinkovics – Newcastle University Business School
Noemi Sinkovics is Professor of Sustainable and Responsible Business at Newcastle University Business School (UK). She has a master’s degree from WU Wien (Vienna University of Economics and Business) and a PhD from the University of Manchester. She is currently Visiting Professor at the University of Murcia, Spain and at the University of Vaasa’s InnoLab in Finland. She previously worked at The University of Glasgow, United Kingdom, The University of Auckland, New Zealand and The University of Manchester, United Kingdom. Her research focuses on how businesses can balance their social, environmental, and economic objectives. She has been awarded many times for her outstanding research. She holds multiple editorial roles (e.g. European Management Journal, Critical Perspectives on International Business) and regularly publishes in top journals.

Radu Godina – NOVA School of Science and Technology, FCT NOVA, NOVA UNIVERSITY LISBON
Radu Godina is an Assistant Professor at the NOVA School of Science and Technology, FCT NOVA, NOVA UNIVERSITY LISBON. He received the Ph.D. degree from University of Beira Interior (UBI), Covilhã, Portugal. Radu Godina is an Integrated Research Member of the Research and Development Unit in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (UNIDEMI), part of Associated Laboratory of Intelligent Systems (LASI), located in Guimarães, Portugal. He has authored or co-authored more than 175 indexed international journals, book chapters and conference proceedings papers in such topics as industrial symbiosis, sustainability, lean manufacturing, electric vehicles, circular economy, life cycle assessment and quality control. He has published with 25 international universities and 10 distinct enterprises and/or corporations.

12th seminar – March 13, 2024: „Responsibility in economics, finance and management research”
Keynote speaker:
Prof. Marcus Scholz – (Technische Universität Dresden)
Markus Scholz is a full professor of Business Management, esp. Responsible Management at Technical University Dresden (TU Dresden). He is also a visiting scholar and adjunct professor at the INSEAD Social Innovation Centre.
Previous academic visiting positions include the Wharton Business School. He also served as the chairman of the European branch of the Harvard Business School’s Microeconomics of Competitiveness network. He was the founding director of the Institute for Business Ethics and Sustainable Strategy as well as of the Josef Ressel Centre for Collective Action and Responsible Partnerships in Vienna.
His research focuses on strategic sustainability management, sustainable change and innovation, business and human rights, and corporate political activity and responsibility, especially in the context of cultural, environmental and technological changes in society.

11th seminar – June 14, 2023: „Crises as catalyst of solutions in economics, finance and management”
Keynote speaker:
Dr Paweł Capik – Director of Postgraduate Research at the College of Business and Law, University of West England in Bristol, UK. Prior to joining Bristol Business School in July 2019, he worked at Keele University, Sheffield Hallam University, University of the West of Scotland and University of Glasgow. He was also a Visiting Faculty at Grenoble Ecole de Management, France. In his research, Paweł focuses on the relationships between international business strategies and operations and regional development theory and practice, particularly in the context of emerging and transition economies.
Results of his research have appeared as monographs, book chapters, reports and papers published in international journals including Advances in International Management and Entrepreneurial Business and Economics Review.
Dr Paweł Capik has supervised doctoral students working on projects exploring political economy of financial sector investments in Africa, contact centres management within the service science context, and application of psychoanalytical techniques in the strategy process. Currently he is supervising PhD and DBA candidates studying migrant firm internationalisation, SMEs export from volatile territories and international aid and public diplomacy.

Keynote speaker: Prof. Zoltan Gal is a full professor in Finance at the Faculty of Economics & Business at the University of Pécs, Hungary. He is the president of the Hungarian Regional Science Association, a member of the European Regional Science Association Council (ERSAC), and a regional ambassador of the Global Network of Financial Geography. His research fields include regional finance, international finance, international economics, regional economics, financial geography, and regional innovation. He has been a visiting scholar at a number of prestigious universities, including the University of Oxford, UK, and Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. He is a member of the editorial boards of international journals.

Keynote speaker: Julianna Faludi Professor (Associate) at Corvinus University of Budapest. She is a sociologist researching social innovation, the future avenues for sustainable consumption and production systems, and digital capitalism. She obtained her PhD in Local Development and Global Dynamics at the University of Trento, and a PhD in Sociology at Corvinus University of Budapest. She is an active Professor at the Doctoral School of Business and Management. She is a Founding member of the Karl Polanyi Research Center at CUB. She is a coach and mentor at hackathons and digital startup projects. She is interested in the potential of social value creation with respect to social change, in the intersection of art, technology, and design.

Keynote speaker: Prof. Hildegunn Kyvik Nordås is visiting professor at Örebro University and worked at the Trade and Agriculture Directorate at the OECD in Paris. Her research interests are international trade in services and services in the digital economy. She has extensive international research, teaching, and policy experience: two years at the research department at the WTO, one year as a visiting scholar at Stanford University, also some time at Norwegian and South African universities.

5th seminar – May 5, 2022: „Energy and digital transformation in economics, finance and management”
Keynote speaker: Prof. Krzysztof Jajuga is a full professor of finance at Wrocław University of Economics and Business, Poland. He is the Chairman of the Department of Financial Investments and Risk Management. He holds a master, doctoral, and habilitation degree from the Wrocław University of Economics and Business, a titular professor given by the President of Poland, an honorary doctorate from the Cracow University of Economics, and an honorary professorship from Warsaw University of Technology. He carried out research and published numerous papers and monographs in the area of financial markets, risk management, household finance, multivariate statistics, and quantitative methods in economic sciences. He is editor-in-chief of Argumenta Oeconomica (JCR journal). Among others, he is the founder and president of CFA Society Poland. He holds the position of Chairman of the Committee of Statistics and Econometrics of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

2nd seminar – November 19, 2021: „Innovations in Economics and Management”
Keynote speaker: Prof. Marcos Ferasso, Ph.D. He holds Bachelor, Specialist, Master of Sciences, and Ph.D. degrees in Business Management. He concluded two postdoctoral research training in Brazil and in France. Currently, Dr. Ferasso is studying 'Technology Entrepreneurship: Lab to Market’ at Harvard Business School. His Ph.D. dissertation was written in the quasi-mixed methods approach and was awarded twice: Highly Commended Award winner, 2017 edition of Emerald/CLADEA Management Research Fund Award, EMERALD Publishing – Consejo Latinoamericano de Escuelas de Administración CLADEA (EUA) in 2017; and Highly Commended Award winner, 2017 Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Awards in the Management and Governance category, Emerald Publishing & European Foundation for Management Development – EFMD (United Kingdom) in 2018.
